Summary
of Background
After completing a four-year tour
in the US Army, I started working in
the truss industry in 1988 with my father. It was a small
panel-and-truss shop that tried to find a market niche in central
Maine. While working part and full-time, I completed a
four-year degree in Business Management. In Wisconsin, I
refined my technical skills as a truss designer and became their design
manager. In Idaho, truss sales became my primary
focus. Within a year of employment at this company, I became
the lead salesman. After five years, I was up for promotion
to a general manager’s position; however, I passed on this to
move my family back to the East coast. My skills and
experience landed me a position as head design manager in a large
Pennsylvania company that produced trusses and wall panels.
My last position was with a New Hampshire company as the manager of
truss production.
Over the years, one tends to pick up a great deal of information if one
pays attention. This on-the-job training has helped me with
my consulting skills. It has been fascinating to see how
every company strives for the same goals, but goes about achieving them
in different ways. I would like to think that after spending
all that time in different environments, anybody could gain knowledge
of what works best.
I have learned something new from each location I have visited, and I
share all the best practices with the next consultation and also with
previous clients. It has been a cumulative process that is
really making a difference with each consultation. Between
learning best practices with each location and the research I conduct,
such as lean manufacturing principles, I know I am performing
a valuable service that permits companies to become more profitable.
